Topological structures: skyrmions |
Introduction |
progressively updated in 2023 |
The study of structures with topological properties is no more limited to a mathematical chapter, it has become a wide preoccupation of experiment in view of precise applications. The introduction is based on its theoretical ground: a mapping from a a base space (for example the plane R^2 compactified to a 2-sphere) to an internal space also a 2-sphere. The elementary topological property arises from the - always integer - number of times a sphere can cover a sphere. The texts of this Section are a series of comments, evaluations, verifications, confrontation of possible approaches and selection of procedures. There is no intention to substitute textbooks or review articles and the periodic return to the orginal journal papers is highly recommended. In our meetings, repetitions and redundancies are not to be avoided. The texts that we place here (the links below) are amorphous, prolix and incomplete. They are a simple list of problems and will be shaped through discussions. We hope that sometime they will be useful.
